The town of Laško is the geographical, administrative, cultural and economic centre of the Laško Municipality. It is situated at 228 m above sea level, has a surface of 198 km2 and 13,705 inhabitants.

As a market, Laško was first mentioned in 1227, while it received rights as a town in 1927. The Savinja River runs through Laško, dividing it into the left and right bank. The old part of the town is located under the slopes of Hum. Due to its geographic properties, all newer buildings are spread on the slope in graduation. Laško is the economic and spa centre of the lower Posavinje region. This is home to the spa resort Thermana d.d., which is currently the leading tourism provider in the Municipality.
