Glija Cave, Planinska Vas

The settlement of Planinska Vas hosts a karstic cave called the Glija Cave that has been a natural monument of national importance since 2004. The cave has an active water stream and is the longest known cave of this area. The source of the Bistrica River is in the cave, a part of which is used to supply 90 households. The cave is interesting also from a biological perspective as small bugs and snails were found in it and are protected due to their exceptionality pursuant to the Act on Nature Protection. Older records also indicate that bones of the cave bear were found next to this cave.

Besides other important animal species, the cave also houses Zospeum isselianum and Leptinus testaceus Muller, which are protected due to their exceptionality pursuant to the Act on Nature Protection. Older records also indicate that bones of the cave bear were found next to this cave.
