Mountain Trail to Donačka Gora

Donačka Gora (882 m) was named after the Church of St. Donat. The church was originally built in a different place, but after being struck by lightning in 1740, it was built at its current location. Donačka Gora was previously called Rogaška Gora. Donačka Gora is located in the easternmost part of the Karawanks in Slovenia.
It has a sharp ridge leading from east to west. The view from its western peak stops on its neighbour Boč, which is higher but doesn’t seem to be because of its gentle slope (you can take a trail leading to it; 5 hours). Konjiška Gora is another of the nearby peaks.
Donačka Gora is accessible via several well-marked trails with the following starting points: from Žetale on the Jože Žetalski trail (difficult and very steep trail), from the Church of St. Donat and from Rudi Lodge. The latter runs along the western part of the special attraction of Donačka Gora – the 27 ha nature reserve, which has been protected as a primeval forest since 1965. Slovenia has only three beech tree forests with a primeval character.
Rudi Lodge under Donačka Gora (590 m high) offers food, drinks and accommodation (dormitory – up to 20 persons). It is open from April to October and on weekends and public holidays (information: +386 (0)31 560 743).
