Tabor Castle, Laško

There is not much known about the origins of the old castle, which was later named Camp (Tabor) due to its defence function against the Ottomans.

Supposedly, it was built soon after the beginning of the Lords of Laško in the 11th or 12th century. It served as the seat of the upper class, the princely court and a fortress for its owners, who changed several times, though nobody ever resided in it. For a while, it was included on the flag of the famous Counts of Celje. After the end of the Ottoman Raids, the castle started to fall apart and by 1989, when it underwent thorough renovation works, its owners had changed on several occasions. Inside the castle walls, there is now a wedding hall and a restaurant where you can enjoy the latest trends in local and seasonal gastronomic treats.
