Church of Mary`s Ascension

The church is the central sacral object in Dobrna and was once the destination of numerous pilgrims
The current building was renovated in the style of baroque in 1844 as it had been influential on the countryside all the way up to the early 20th century. The vaulted ceiling is covered in frescoes by Tomaž Fantoni, and the building houses three marble gravestones, among them the gravestones of Matija and Margareta Gačnik. The gilded statue of Mary`s ascension found in a niche behind the great altar dates back to 1740. Another point of interest is the side altar from the former mansion chapel, which is adorned by images of saints from the 15th century. These are part of the permanent exhibition Gothic Art in Slovenia at the National Gallery in Ljubljana.
