The Old Pot (Stari Pisker)

A former Minorite convent was renovated into a penitentiary in the 19th century; at that time, the entire complex received the name the Old Pot.

The complex has historical value for Slovenians, especially the population of Celje and its environment. It is closely connected to the darkest period of our not so long gone past: in its courtyard, Nazis shot 374 people without any prior conviction during six shootings in 1941 and 1942. Today, a bronze relief designed by sculptor Peter Černe serves as reminder of such cruel deeds.
A part of the Old Pot – the courtyard and memory room – is today a dislocated unit of the Celje Museum of Contemporary History with a renewed display setting.
